Mennens Belgium Delivers Overhead Crane to Chiyoda Europe for New Production Hall
As part of the expansion of its production capacity, Chiyoda Europe has constructed a new production hall equipped with a bespoke overhead crane supplied by Mennens Belgium. The installation supports the company’s long-term growth strategy and future-focused vision.
Built with the Future in Mind
Chiyoda Europe specialises in printing paper and substrates for decorative panels used in the furniture industry. Its products are applied to furniture, laminate flooring, cabinets and façade cladding. The production process involves cylinders in various diameters, ranging from 900 mm to 2000 mm in circumference.
The new hall has been deliberately constructed with additional height to accommodate future developments, including potential changes in digital printing technology. The increased clearance also enables raw materials to be transported efficiently over the machinery for seamless replenishment.
From Engineering to Commissioning
Chiyoda approached Mennens with the request to supply a suitable overhead crane for the new facility . Following the engineering and preparation phase, the crane was assembled, transported to site and installed by Mennens’ specialists. Prior to commissioning, all operational and safety functions were thoroughly tested.
In Belgium, lifting equipment must undergo inspection by an External Service for Technical Control (EDTC) before being put into service . This process includes verification of certification documents and the EC Declaration of Conformity, as well as a physical inspection of the installation. Static and dynamic overload tests are also carried out before official approval is granted.

Efficient Integration Through New Build
A key advantage of this project was that it formed part of a completely new build. From the first foundation works to the final roof panel, the structure was executed according to detailed plans, reducing the need for additional measurement and on-site adjustments . Responsibility for dimensional accuracy lay with the construction contractor, allowing for efficient integration of the overhead crane.
Long-Term Partnership
The partnership between Chiyoda and Mennens began approximately eight years ago . What started with maintenance of hoists has since evolved into a broader collaboration, including the supply of new hoists and overhead cranes. Today, Mennens is responsible for approximately 85 to 90 per cent of Chiyoda’s lifting equipment activities.
Successful Handover
As with any installation project, the most critical moment comes when the system is powered up for the first time. In this case, the commissioning proceeded smoothly, with the crane performing exactly as designed.
With the successful delivery of the overhead crane, Chiyoda Europe now benefits from a future-proof lifting solution aligned with its operational growth and technological ambitions. The continuity of contact persons and the established working relationship between both parties contributed to an efficient and well-executed project.
